MTU Talk and External Advisory Board
A few weeks ago I was honored to be asked to talk at Michigan Tech as part of their 50th anniversary of the Computer Science department. Then this week, I participated in the Michigan Tech University External Advisory Board. I graduated from MTU in 1999 with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and have tried to give back over the course of my career. Sometimes that is sharing my experiences in “the real world”, sometimes it’s reviewing and providing feedback on their curriculum (long live Data Structures and Algorithms). I still find it surprising to have folks asking about what I think or what I’ve learned. From my perspective, it’s been a chaotic and messy journey with ups and downs lacking a charted path. But to know that my bumps and bruises can help others on their journey makes it a lot more rewarding. Each of us have this knowledge and learning within us and I highly recommend finding opportunities to share it with others.
